Most of the time I listen to non-English music, I try to just appreciate it for what it is. Translated music doesn’t always get the right treatment, and you can’t just throw something in to Google Translate to get a good idea of what it’s about. Every now and then, though, an artist releases an English version of a song I already love and it actually ends up pretty awesome! Take, for instance, this latest release from Smiley.

Smiley’s “Sleepless” is an English version of “Insomnii,” which was released earlier this year, and while it is not a direct translation I feel like this track does an incredible job of capturing the feel of the original while still giving us lyrics that make sense and sound great in English. While I certainly don’t feel that popular music should need to be translated just for English speaking or American audiences, it’s always a nice treat when it is done well.

You can check out the original version of the track right here, for the curious.

What did you think of this single? Do you love it? Prefer the Romanian version? Be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments, or share another song that you think did a great job of translating to English!
